One killed in a shootout with Sri Lankan police

At least one person was killed and another three escaped in a shootout with the police this morning at Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte.

Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekara said that the incident occurred when the police team at a roadblock attempted to check a car.

According to the SSP Gunasekara, police had attempted to check the suspected car on information that it was transporting weapons.

Following the incident the suspected car was found abandoned on the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital Road.
