Prabhakaran s diary found in Sri Lanka

It contained contact details of Tigers.

The police have recovered a Year 2008 Diary, believed to be that of the LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran, from a bag belonging to a soldier on Sunday, police sources said yesterday.

The diary contains vital information including an LTTE plan of an attack on the Independence Day celebrations in 2008.

Details of all other attacks carried out by the LTTE during the year had also been recorded in the diary, investigators said.

The diary was found inside an abandoned bag and it was traced to a soldier returning from the Puthumalthalan battle front. `We used a telephone number found inside the bag to trace the owner,` an investigator told The Island.

The suspect was taken into custody and he was being interrogated at the time of going to press.

According to information elicited from him he had found the diary inside an LTTE bunker during an Operation.

There were pictures of LTTE leaders and armaments printed on some of the pages of the diary.

The police said they had no reason to doubt it was the diary of the slain LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran. They said all the personal details of the LTTE leader had been given in the diary.

The suspect soldier is kept under special detention orders and being further interrogated, police said.

Further investigations are being conducted by Dam Street Police OIC, IP Prasanna Ratnayake.
